Outgoing student mobility

Outgoing students are students of the Islamic University of Applied Sciences Rotterdam who wish to spend part of their study time at a foreign university within the Erasmus+ Mobility Programme. The International Office as sending institution informs and advises outgoing students before, during and after the mobility programme at the receiving institution. The student mobility is a crucial step in the process of gaining knowledge and personal development/

The outgoing student may receive all necessary information prior to departure, such as:

  • Application procedure, consisting of:

    • minimum grade requirements

    • intake and motivation

    • language requirement and assessment

    • evaluation after arrival

  • The learning agreement;

  • The grant agreement;

  • Courses of choice at receiving institution;

  • ECTS grading and Transcript of Record;

  • Insurance, visa and accommodation at the country in which mobility programme takes place;

  • Contact details at the receiving institution;

  • Etcetera

Erasmus+ Partner institutions
The Erasmus+ student mobility for outgoing students focuses on the partner country Morocco. The Islamic University of Applied Sciences Rotterdam currently has an Inter-Institutional Agreement (IIA) with 2 higher educational partner institutions:

– The Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University (USAID) in the city of Fez.

The major positive social and educational developments serious reforms are implemented in the educational system of Morocco; the increase of accessibility in gender, technology and the importance of English language in the educational system are visible. This is also present in the curricula of the University of Sidi Mohamed ben Abdellah (USAID). Today, Morocco continues to develop the internationalisation strategy of its educational system. Under this strategy USAID, in the city of Fez, shows a variety of cultural diversity among its students; participation, mobility and partnerships are key values.

– The Al-Qarawiyyin University, department Dar Al Hadith Al Hassania in the city of Rabat.

Establishment Dar Al Hadith Al Hassania’ in Rabat is part of world’s oldest university the Al-Qarawiyyin. It has a more modest student amount with the same diverse population from the European, Asian and the African continent. The education institution is providing high-skill theology education and actively implementing a diversity & internationalisation policy which is integrated in Morocco overall educational internationalisation strategy.

Benefits

Studying abroad has many benefits, such as learn a new language or improve your language skills, develop skills to deal with challenges. Work on your degree with various courses abroad. After graduation you will be able to demonstrate employers you cultural flexibility, develop awareness and skills in cross-cultural communication. Develop a better understanding of own and other cultures and obviously travel and see new places.

The Selection Procedure

The outgoing student will be able to study within the mobility programme for a minimum of three months. The International Office organizes  information meetings for students who have applied for outgoing mobility. They are informed through e-mail and through the Student Portal. Students will be given the possibility to ask questions about all relevant aspects such as the application procedure, courses at the receiving institution, the learning and grant agreements, the accommodation, campus, visa, health insurance, mobility grant and all other details before, during and after mobility.

In this paragraph the I.O. (The International Office staff) elaborates further about the upcoming procedure for mobility in the current academic year.

Step 1: Fill in the application form, completed with all required information and with a motivation letter of approximately
300 words. Click here for the application form.

Step 2: Submit the form at the International Office (coordinator mr. O. C. Ziylan) in room K.02, at the left wing in the university building, or send it by e-mail to intoffice@iuasr.nl. The opening hours of the International Office is every Tuesday and Wednesday from 12:00-13:00h pm, and reachable at all times by e-mail.

Step 3: The International Office will check whether you qualify for the outgoing mobility.

Step 4:  If the International Office qualifies you, a language assessment on English/Arabic will be taken. If you pass this with at least 70 points, it means that you’re accepted as outgoing mobility student.

Step 5: You shall be invited for  a personal intake and the I.O. coordinator will prepare all necessary documents i.e. learning and grant agreement.

Step 6: The International Office coordinator of the receiving institution will be informed and last checks will be done before your departure. Finally the 3 parties (student, coordinator receiving and sending institution) will sign the learning and grant agreements.

Step 7: The Erasmus+ student mobility grant consists of Individual Support (primary needs) and Travel reimbursement. Before departure 70% of the Individual Support and 100% of the travel reimbursement will be paid to you. After arrival, when you have completed the EU-survey and fulfilled the evaluation with the International Office, you shall receive the remaining 30% of the Individual Support.

Entry requirements (eligibility)

Second, third and fourth year IUASR-bachelor students are allowed to apply. They will have to score a minimum of 70 points for their English/Arabic language assessment. Outgoing students will have a minimum English language level of B1 according to the Erasmus+ requirement.

Termination of the agreement & “Force majeure”

If the participant terminates the agreement before its agreement ends or if he/she fails to follow the agreement in accordance with the rules, he/she shall have to refund the amount of the grant already paid, except if agreed differently with the institution.
In case of termination by the participant due to “force majeure”, i.e. an unforeseeable exceptional situation or event beyond the participant’s control and not attributable to error or negligence on his/her part, the participant shall be entitled to receive the amount of the grant corresponding to the actual duration of the mobility period as defined in article 2.2. of the Grant Agreement. Any remaining funds shall have to be refunded, except if agreed differently with the sending organisation.

During the mobility: EU-survey

During the mobility period of the student, 30 days before the end of the mobility and return to IUASR, the student will receive by mail a weblink of Erasmus+ which includes the EU-survey. This interview contains questions about the outgoing students’ overall mobility experience. The student is obliged to fill this in and submit it digitally.

After mobility

After the mobility period of the student, the IUASR International Office will receive a transcript of records within 5 weeks from the receiving institution where the student has fulfilled his/her mobility period. This transcript is an overview of the courses which have been achieved according to the learning agreement. The EC of the achieved courses will then be added to the Diploma Supplement (DS) of the student. In case the student does not fulfil educational components, those courses will logically not be added to the DS. The student will have to be examined on these components again at the IUASR.
